											| THREE INCREDIBLE THINGS YOU MAYBE DON’T KNOWABOUT MONTENEGRO

											| 1.  Place Where You Can Swim and Ski in the Same Day | | |

						|

								| Montenegro may be a small country, but it holds one of the most unique travel experiences in Europe: in just a couple of hours, you can plunge into the warm waters of the Adriatic Sea and then head into the mountains for a day of skiing.
This “wild beauty” is part of what makes Montenegro so fascinating for visitors and second-home buyers alike.

Morning by the Sea: Imagine starting your day in Budva or Tivat with a morning swim in the Adriatic.
The coastline stretches for 293 kilometers, dotted with sandy beaches, charming coves, and vibrant seaside towns. The Mediterranean climate brings over 240 sunny days a year, making the sea inviting even in spring and autumn.

Afternoon in the Mountains: From the coast, it takes only about two hours by car to reach the highlands of Bjelasica or Durmitor. Here, the climate is completely different: crisp mountain air, pine forests, and snow-covered slopes in winter. Ski resorts such as Kolašin 1600 and Savin Kuk near Žabljak offer modern facilities and breathtaking scenery. In summer, these same mountains turn into hiking and rafting paradises, with the Tara Canyon — the deepest in Europe — as the highlight.

								| This rare combination of climates and landscapes in such a compact area is something few countries can offer. Montenegro allows you to live two lifestyles at once: the laid-back rhythm of the coast and the adventurous spirit of the mountains. In a world where people are increasingly searching for places that offer both comfort and adventure, Montenegro stands out.
Few destinations let you swap a beach towel for skis in the same day — but here, it’s simply part of daily life.

											| 2. Timeless Beauty: The Ancient History of the Bay of Kotor | | |

						|

								|

Nestled between majestic mountains and the Adriatic Sea, the Bay of Kotor is not only one of the most breathtaking places in the Mediterranean — it is also one of the most historic.

With roots that reach back to ancient Roman times, and a rich tapestry of Illyrian, Byzantine, Venetian, and Slavic influences, this region is a living museum of European civilization.

For anyone drawn to places where the past and present intertwine, the Bay of Kotor offers a one-of-a-kind experience — and an extraordinary place to call home.

Long before the age of tourism, stone villas, and sailing yachts, the shores of the bay were dotted with Illyrian settlements, and later, Roman towns that served as key trading and naval points along the Adriatic. Risan, one of the earliest towns in the bay, was a center of the Illyrian kingdom and later became a Roman stronghold, still remembered for its stunning Roman mosaics, including the famous mosaic of Hypnos, the god of sleep.

								| The town of Kotor flourished during the Middle Ages, reaching its cultural and architectural peak under Venetian rule between the 15th and 18th centuries. Today, Kotor’s Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its labyrinthine streets, Gothic churches, noble palaces, and ancient city walls standing as testaments to centuries of history. The legacy of the Venetian Republic, which ruled this region for nearly 400 years, is visible not only in Kotor but also in nearby towns such as Perast, Prčanj, and Dobrota. These elegant coastal villages are filled with baroque palaces, church towers, and refined stone houses — all facing the tranquil, fjord-like waters of the bay. Whether you're an artist, a history enthusiast, a romantic, or simply someone who values timeless beauty and soul in your surroundings, the Bay of Kotor offers a unique connection to the past, paired with modern comfort and access. It’s no wonder that more and more international buyers and second-home seekers are choosing this region — where the architecture tells stories, and every sunset over the bay feels eternal.

											| 3. Ulcinj Old Town: From Pirates and Poets to Sunset Views and Stone Streets | | |

						|

								|

Perched on a rocky hill above the Adriatic, with sweeping views of the sea and the coast, the Old Town of Ulcinj is one of the oldest urban settlements on the Montenegrin coast — and certainly one of the most intriguing.

With a history that blends pirates, slaves, sultans, merchants, and mystics, this fortified city has seen it all.

Today, it offers visitors and residents not just stone walls and sea views, but also a profound sense of continuity, where stories from centuries past still echo through narrow alleyways.

						|

								|
What sets Ulcinj apart from other coastal towns is its unique past as a center of piracy in the 17th and 18th centuries. For decades, Ulcinj was known as a pirate stronghold under Ottoman rule, with its corsairs (sea raiders) capturing merchant ships across the Adriatic and beyond. Captives were brought back to Ulcinj, where many were ransomed or remained in slavery. One of the most famous legends is that of Miguel
de Cervantes, the Spanish author of Don Quixote, who is believed by some scholars to have been held as a slave in Ulcinj between 1575 and 1580. While historical evidence is debated, the town honors this story, and locals will proudly point out the street once known as the "Street of the Slaves."

						|

								|
Ulcinj’s Old Town is not a monument — it’s a living neighborhood, where people still live in centuries-old stone houses, hang laundry on their balconies, and gather in cafés carved into fortress walls.

As you walk through the gates, you’ll pass layers of history: Illyrian foundations, Venetian architecture, Ottoman mosques, and traditional seaside homes with flat roofs and arched windows.
